 United States Of America has had yet another ugly Gun issue. This time at the University of Maryland. Police say a student shot two housemates, one fatally, in an off-campus residence and then killed himself.

The shooting happened at around 1 a.m. Tuesday in College Park in Prince George's County.

Police say one of the men set a fire in the basement of the home early Tuesday, and when his housemates confronted him he shot them. The injured student is expected to survive.The University of Maryland student who shot and killed his roommate before taking his own life was  identified as 23-year-old Dayvon Maurice Green.

According to officials, Green was a graduate student and had been suffering from mental illness for at least a year.

Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home near campus in College Park, Md., just after 1 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived at the scene they discovered three young men had been shot.

Green allegedly set a series of small fires in his backyard, awakening his two roommates. When they confronted him, he shot both of them before turning the gun on himself. One of the roommates, 22-year-old undergraduate Stephen Alex Rane, was pronounced dead at the local hospital. The other, also a 22-year-old undergraduate, is expected to survive.

"The University of Maryland community awoke this morning to heartbreak," University President Wallace Loh said in a statement Tuesday, in which he offered condolences to the victims' friends and family.

"Ours is a university of great resolve," he added. "Together, we will emerge from our collective sadness."
